About Iota
I
ota is a quarterly literary magazine founded in Derbyshire in
1987. Three poetry issues are published along with one fiction
each year.

Each issue is published with over one hundred pages of
excellent new work, reviews and interviews in a superbly
designed and produced paperback format. We offer ample
space to each poet - all have several poems published
alongside fascinating interviews with writers.

Submissions of new work are welcome all year round for
both poetry and short fiction. Poetry submissions must be
posted to us in a printed format but we will accept fiction
submissions be email. More

Why not try one of our offers on single issues which is post
free worldwide and includes a complimentary copy of one of
our new
iota shot pamphlets.

Iota 89, the latest poetry issue has just arived and features
interviews with Carol Rumens and Mario Petrucci as well as a

Over the last twenty-four years many established poets have
featured in the pages of Iota, still more poets who are carving
out excellent reputations had early work published there. It
has been a fertile proving ground for many and has frequently
offered the first opportunity for publication to upcoming
poets. We hope that alongside the best poets writing today,
the reader will find many new poets to watch out for in the
future.  There will be familiar names; but also international
poets being introduced to a new audience.

We apply an anonymous selection process because we feel
strongly that inclusion should be based entirely on the poems
rather than on the poet's reputation. We don’t want to be
swayed by names we recognise; we want to be delighted by
poems standing in the world alone. We also want each poet to
be represented by more than one poem, and we consider each
piece of work on its merits.

Iota Shots Awards
The Iota Shots Awards are an additional opportunity for
poets to have shorter poetry collections or chapbooks
published by Templar. The inaugural Iota Shots arrived with
Iota 89 and all single issues of Iota 89 will include a
complimentary copy of one of the first Iota Shots.

An Iota Shot will be whatever the poet makes it. It might be a
series of sonnets - one of the first winners is just that - haiku,
a sequence, a single narrative poem, a mini-epic or simply a
short collection. Three submissions are selected for
publication and each winning poet receives £100 and 100
copies of their Iota Shot. All writers who submit also receive a
complimentary Iota Shot collection.

Templar supports its published  poets in organising live
launch events for their work and the first Iota Shot launch
took place in Belfast recently with a further event due soon in
London, which will feature several Templar poets.

Templar Poetry is committed to developing the short
collection or pamphlet as a significant opportunity for new
work to attract new readers. An excellent overview of the
contemporary pamphlet was published in Iota and can be
viewed
here

The 2011 Iota Shots are now open for submission. Further
