New World Enters Closed Beta, Instantly Reaching Nearly 200,000 Steam Players

Amazon Game Studios’ latest project, New World, has just entered closed beta, and early interest is huge. The beta hit nearly 200,000 concurrent players within hours of going live, and it’s currently the best game on Twitch by any order of magnitude. Time will tell what players ultimately think of New World, but so far it seems like a massive turnaround from the last AGS project.

New World has hit a peak concurrent player count of 187,786 as of this writing, and as SteamDB shows, that number continues to grow. On Twitch, he has over 721,000 viewers, backed by renowned streamers and Twitch Drops for free in-game items. Even with those incentives in mind, the statistic is still impressive – long before Just Chatting, with 369,000 viewers, and Warzone, with 246,000.

For comparison, Amazon’s Crucible peaked at 25,145 on release day, which dropped steeply in the weeks after launch. The game was discontinued shortly after.

Obviously, between FFXIV and New World, there’s a lot of hunger for MMORPGs that don’t start with ‘W’.

The appropriate New World release date is set for August 31. You can follow this link for more information on what to expect from the game.
